Easter Chocolate Brownies!

final brownie image.jpg

Easter is such a symbolic time of year for those of you that are religious. It is the time where Jesus was believed to be resurrected 3 days after his crucifixion. But to the others reading this article, Easter could have a greater symbolic meaning to them. For me, Easter means 1 thing - CHOCOLATE!

The excitment of receiving easter eggs from anyone who was willing to give me one was always one of my happiest memories from my childhood, and it is definitely safe to say that the chocolate never lasted long! It probably goes some way to explaining why I am the size that I am today! However, since I started my studies in food, chocolate isn't just something you pick up from the shop and eat straight away. It is a world of endless possibilities, which can be modelled and adapted to how you want to use it to prepare both sweet and savoury foods!

I developed this recipe during my second year at university whilst completing a Food Media project. My brief was to develop a recipe in the style of Nigella Lawson, who is notoriously known as "The Queen of Food Porn". I would say "Food Porn" is creating something that is rich, indulgent and will leave you wanting more! The rich flavour of the brownies is perfect for the soft, slightly gooey nature of what makes the best brownies, and I would say that a great brownie is a perfect example of "Food Porn"!

However, not only will these brownies taste great though, they are fantastic to cook with the children too. There will be some parts that the bigger kids will have to complete, like melting the chocolate and the butter together. The smaller kids can mix all of the ingredients together though and get their hands stuck in to get messy with the food - don't forget to wash their hands first though, its one of the most important things to do when preparing food! The children will love preparing these brownies and then being able to eat them after!

These are perfect served at room temperature throughout the day, or even warmed through with some ice cream or whipped cream as a dessert after dinner. The almond-flavour makes this an irresistible recipe to try, and great to make with the children to help celebrate Easter and their Easter holidays, and great for grown up children too!

If you consider this recipe to be comparable to food porn, leave me some feedback!

Happy Easter!
